Are You Anchored Safely Or Out At Sea?

ARA Presidente Sarmiento

It was one of the most stunning ships I have ever seen! The ARA Presidente Sarmiento is considered to be the last intact cruising training ship from the 1890’s. She has maintained her original appearance from 1898. I was so impressed by her architecture and beauty that I immediately inquired about going sailing aboard this ship. I was so disappointed when I was told that there were no sailing excursions on this ship. The reason why people were lining up to buy tickets was not to go sailing, but, to visit its historical interior. The ARA Presidente Sarmiento has been retired and is now anchored at the Port Modero as a museum ship.

The ship was originally built as a training ship for the Argentine Naval…to be OUT AT SEA! Now, it is at the safest place, away from the adventures of the sea. People can still enjoy it’s historical beauty, but, it’s true value is not being put in use. Sailing aboard this ship could be one of the most amazing adventures which we will never get to experience.

This blog is not about the ARA Presidente Sarmiento. It is to illustrate how so many of you are in the same situation as the ARA Presidente Sarmiento. Anchored safely at harbor, but, that is not what you are here for. You all have a special talent that is unique. You all have a much higher value to offer those around you and to the world. By staying anchored safely at your harbor, no one will ever get to experience who you really can be.

You might have to go through some rough waters, but, in going through them, you will be forced to use all the equipment you have been given to sail across. Soon, you will discover how much horsepower your engines have, you will never want to stay put at harbor again. You will experience that it is in taking risks that you find the most precious treasures of success!

Don’t become a piece of the furniture, a museum for show and tell. You have so much more to offer, take everyone around you sailing out at sea, show them who you really are. In bringing out the best in yourself, you will have a contagious effect in bringing out the best in others.

Unlike the ship, you are in control to make that choice. You do not have to sit there, wait to be acted upon and hopefully one day someone will take you out to sea.

The ship has proven to be successful in the sense that people are buying tickets to visit it. Because of this, it is being kept stagnant for the purpose of making money. Overtime, certain habits or behaviors have proven to be successful to you, so, you stuck to those habits. It is time to let them go, they are the reason for your boredom and frustration. They worked in the past, but, things change, they are no longer working for you. It is time to move forward, give yourself that push, try something different, anything, challenge yourself to develop new habits. Stop trying to avoid making mistakes, if you don’t make mistakes, you will also never grow out of your safety zone and reach your full potential.

Don’t be afraid to be yourself. Even if it means that others will find you weird, it only means you are doing something right! Some of the great legends out there, were all thought to be weird… It is a GOOD THING!

I would like to hear how you interpret this statement and about your experiences in taking risks.

“A Ship in harbor is safe, but that is not what ships are built for

A ship is not something that is there to protect you and keep you safe – it is a means that will provide adventure and new experiences – and who knows how much these can affect and impact your life?

That’s what this statement says to me. 🙂

I agree with what you wrote, it’s true that we’ll never learn anything if we stay in our confort zone and new experiences can bring so much to our lives. However, it’s not all bad to stay put either. The Presidente Sarmiento might stay put, but people can still benefit and learn from it – just like we learn from our elders or peers who have gone through experiences that we haven’t, and sometimes never will…

Hi Nancy, Thank you so much for your comment! I LOVE IT!! You mentioned that just like the ship, people can still benefit and learn from us:) also, that we can learn from other’s experiences…Nancy, you have demonstrated how you are able to capture every opportunity that comes your way (whether it is from those around you or eternal), as you grow through those lessons, people are benefiting from you!!! WOW! Thank you for sharing this insight with us:)
